Common knowledge and maintenance of diesel generator sets

**I. Preparations Before Starting the Unit**

1. Check that the lubricating oil level, coolant level, and fuel quantity are within the specified ranges on the gauge.

2. Inspect the diesel engine's fuel supply, lubrication, and cooling systems for any oil or coolant leaks in the pipelines and connections.

3. Examine electrical wiring for hazards such as exposed wires, ensure grounding wires and electrical connections are secure,

and verify the unit is firmly attached to the foundation.

4. If the ambient temperature is below freezing, add antifreeze to the radiator in the proportion specified in the manual.

5. For the first start-up or after a prolonged shutdown, ensure all air is purged from the fuel system.

6. Move the generator incoming line cabinet switch trolley to the working position and confirm the energy storage switch is closed.

**II. Starting the Unit**

1. After closing the fuse in the control box, press the start button for 3–5 seconds. If the unit fails to start,

wait approximately 20 seconds before attempting again. If multiple attempts fail, cease starting operations,

troubleshoot issues such as battery voltage or fuel system faults, and then retry.

2. Monitor the oil pressure during startup. If no pressure or abnormally low pressure is indicated, immediately shut down the unit and inspect.

**III. Unit Operation**

1. After startup, verify all parameters on the control box module—oil pressure, water temperature, voltage,

frequency—are within specified ranges. Record these parameters in the logbook every hour.

2. Typically, the unit’s speed should reach the rated RPM immediately after startup. If idling is required, limit it to

3–5 minutes to avoid overheating and damaging generator components.

3. Inspect the unit for leaks in the fuel system, coolant system, and electrical connections.

4. Check all connections for tightness and ensure there is no excessive looseness or severe vibration.

5. Monitor all protective and supervisory devices for normal operation.

6. Verify the generator temperature remains within the specified range.

7. Once the unit reaches rated speed and no-load parameters stabilize, close the circuit breaker to supply power.

8. Confirm all control panel parameters are within acceptable limits and recheck the unit for vibrations, leaks (oil, coolant, or fuel), or other faults.

9. Never operate the unit under overload conditions.

**IV. Parallel Operation of Units**

1. Designate the first started unit as the "master" and the subsequent unit as the "slave."

2. Only initiate parallel operation of the second unit after the first unit runs stably.

3. During parallel operation, monitor the reverse power level, which should normally range between 1–10 kW.

If it exceeds this range, contact the manufacturer for troubleshooting.

**V. Normal Shutdown**

Always open the circuit breaker before shutting down. Typically, allow the unit to run unloaded for 3–5 minutes before stopping.

**VI. Emergency Shutdown**

1. Immediately shut down the generator if abnormal operation occurs and report promptly to the mine dispatch center.

2. For emergency shutdown, press the emergency stop button or swiftly move the fuel injection pump control lever to the shutdown position.

**Diesel Generator Room Management System**

1. Electricians must operate the generator according to procedures, perform regular maintenance, and log each operation.

2. Regularly inspect all generator components, coolant, fuel, and battery sets to ensure they are in optimal condition, enabling immediate startup when needed.

3. In the event of a high-voltage power outage, ensure power generation and supply are restored within 30 minutes.

4. Generator operation must be monitored by dedicated personnel. Check all parameters on the control panel display for abnormalities,

address issues promptly, and report to supervisors.

5. Keep the generator set clean, no debris should be piled up near the generator, and special tools should be placed in the toolbox.

6. Ensure the diesel tank is adequately filled. Refuel promptly after each operation to prepare for the next use.

7. Unauthorized personnel are prohibited from entering the generator room without approval from relevant supervisors.

8. Open flames are strictly forbidden in the generator room to prevent accidents.

**Job Responsibilities of Diesel Generator Operators**

1. Operators must understand the basic structure of the generator and be capable of troubleshooting minor faults.

2. Operators must correctly operate the generator in accordance with established procedures.

3. Regularly perform maintenance tasks, inspect all generator components, coolant, fuel, and battery sets, and ensure the unit is always ready for operation.

4. Operators must remain at their posts during generator operation and avoid leaving without authorization.

5. Log all operational details and any issues encountered during operation, and promptly arrange for repairs by maintenance personnel.

6. Be proficient in using the fire-fighting equipment available in the generator room to respond effectively to fires.

7. During the operation of the generator, unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter the machine room.

8. The generator room should be kept ventilated, and no debris should be piled up near the generator. Special tools should be placed in the toolbox.
